Transcribed 1945 Letter from Russell Reece’s Mom

February 17, 1945

My Dear Son:

I didn’t get around to write Fri, and here it is Sat evening so I better take time out and write a few lines.  Well more news about Herb but not so good.  He came down with malaria fever Thur afternoon and had a very bad spell, had fever of 104 and then chills and sweat so terrible.  The used 8 sheets in 12 hours and everything they could find for pajamas, so I took my sheets up there and your pajamas.  The Dr. at Norte Dame is looking after him till his 15 days are up and he has to go back to the hospital in Iowa.  He sure has tough luck he looks so bad.  I went and helped, washed up there yesterday then we had a committee meeting here last night and had to get ready for it.  I served barbecue sandwiches and coffee, they all ate 2. I like them too. Miaries and Megan are starting home from Georgia today on their vacation.  Maurice got home this afternoon from New York.  Will be home one week then go to Detroit next. Carl Frelts passed in the Navy and is at Great Lakes and Ed Sester didn’t pass.

Aunt Zelpha went home today and Uncle Pascal went with her. Guess this is the news.

Lots of Love from Mom.

PS. Think I told you Pascal quit the restaurant.
